Before I begin with a nutrition article per se, I would like to define what the Registered Dietitian task is.
A Registered Dietitian is a healthcare professional with a college degree which accredits him as a nutrition and dietetics expert, capable of intervening in the nutrition of an individual or group of people through: healthcare and disease nutrition; dietetic advice; research and teaching; and public health from government agencies, from the nutrition business sector and from mass catering.
After reading this definition, I must remark that we, Registered Dieticians, are not Medical Doctors and, on the other way round, MDs are not Registered Dieticians. This point has to be clear as we don’t diagnose diseases nor they should be allowed to set dietetics standards for patients. We are a team but even nowadays, in the year 2011, this difference is not clearly regulated in Spain.
